Hello all:

Bread Report - As some of you may know I have been in the hunt for something that is bread but low(er) carb. My initial search resulted in extreme disappointment as I came across a number of keto recipe concoctions of "bread" but were simply not bread-like at all. This includes those "breads" that were very low Carb from Juilan's or Zero Carb bakery. In both cases they simply tasted like cardboard.

Okay, next. the internet has a bunch of recipes labelled soul bread, bread made of cheese and cream cheese and muffins in a cup. All of them missed the mark for me - either I knew I was eating cheese or I thought maybe I had accidentally started chewing on my kitchen sponge.

The third group was more promising. First there was "The Internet Best Keto Bread" at https://www.ketoconnect.net/best-keto-bread/ And, it was decent. For me, it seemed more like a cake-bread and I use it as you would use a pound cake. Next, I plan on trying bread with yeast at https://www.lowcarb-ology.com/low-carb-yeast-bread/. I'll keep you posted. And, I like Joseph's Bakery Flax, Oat Bran & Whole Wheat pita bread! They have a free from version with no added chemicals.

But, today I was at the regular grocery store and picked up Nature's Own Life Sugar Free Bread.

Pros- yes it actually tastes like bread but you have to like whole wheat, it is chewy, you can make a sandwich, no artificial ingredients, it toasts, butter is absorbed! And normal price $2.99

Cons- tastes very whole wheaty, has 8 net carbs, you won't confuse it with fresh French bread or San Francisco sourdough

Conclusion: For those who occasionally need toast or a sammitch, like whole wheat
and who can tolerate 8-16 grams of carbs(1 or 2 slices) - It is worth it.

Bob
PS Of course all of my taste tests are just my own opinions but that's all I got:)

It will be a bit "have your cake and eat it too" with bread on keto. Really difficult to justice to break and eat 20 net carbs. Nothing I do. I do have flax in a recipe called muffin in a mug or something like that/ Flax, egg, butter, baking soda, sweetener, cinnamon and microwave. I like flax quite a bit so that works for me

Liv001: Haven't tried flax seed recipes yet - I see there are a few out there - will have to give it a whirl.

I've had keto nut and seed bread and it can be good. Not at all like bread though. More like a slice of banana bread but hard. Good with honey, etc on it. Very expensive to make though. :0)

P28 bread is supposed to be pretty awesome. I follow a bodybuilder that uses it for French toast. 28 grams of protein in two slices for 260 calories. Great macros. I would get it, but it's expensive. $6.99 for 15 slices.

Read my last journal entries and learn how it all works. Lifting weights doesn't change how macronutrients work. These people with their belief systems over science always making excuses.

When you place some youtube doctor that just wants to line his pockets over metabolic ward studies involving people from all walks of life, not just bodybuilders(probably rarely so since they don't have a weight room in these metabolic chambers), you know you're lost.

Matt we are not all body builders. As a matter of fact I hate to exercise. I exercise for the same reason I brush my hair... it’s the better choice

I am not on a low carb diet, but I do look for bread with some protein in it and I try to limit how much bread I have. For awhile I would have 1/4 to 1/2 bagel every morning. 1/4 bagel is under 15 carbs. Don't know if that helps anyone but me. I try to just eat reduced portions of things I like.

I love love love light, rye, seedless and it's only 47 calories and 8 carbs per slice... And one slice is as big as two slices of crap bread.... It's a must try...
