66Pack's Journal, 20 Nov 19

I don’t post here much but here we are nearing the end of 2019. This was to be my year of getting mor fit than I’ve ever been. Didn’t Happen! Wondering now where this will all end. 12/11/18 work injury. Recent Steroid shots in my back couple weeks ago did nothing, daily pain increasing and Dr is calling for second MRI in prep for partial discectomy L3-L4. Doesn’t help that I sit behind a steering wheel for a living. 07/04/19 bicycle right shoulder injury on already questionable overworked shoulders. Now feels like rotator cuff surgery may be due on not one but both shoulders. Crying in my beer tonight..... After working all my life is this what retirement has in store for me? Life is sucking at this moment as o need to keep going toward retirement but need down time for healing as well

Yikes. Hope everything heals, eventually. Hang in there. Maybe it only sucks for now.

I’m sorry you’re hurting 😔 steroids halt weight loss and can cause weight gain, and extra frustrating when you still are in pain. Venting and being open is a good thing, most importantly for you and we’re human. My stepfather retired just in time last Christmas/January when things started getting extra real in our family with drug addiction with my sister. Thankful for my moms sake( fragile) but just so sad. I hope you’re pain gets better and you can start to enjoy retirement ❤️💜💚

I’m sorry back pain is the worst. Try to do what you can with small steps

Venting is good. So sorry for all the pain you are going. One day/step at a time. Hopefully, these issues will be behind you as you heal quickly.

mindset, motivation, desire and determination brother! I understand all too well. I'm 59 on disability with half a dozen (literally) musculoskeletal issues and am a recovering opioid addict (20 months off of methadone). March 2018 I was 191lbs and unable to walk without a cane due to a severely pulled left gluteus medius (couldn't support my weight on the side that needs hip replacement). For me it was one small thing at a time.. but first and foremost was eating lifestyle. diet to me suggests a temporary adjustment.... I eat for nutrition first. After 11 months I was down to 159lbs but out of shape, back hurt, neck hurt, foot, shoulder. March 15th I started working out again, small steps due to the "issues", twice a week 30 minute whole bodyweight sessions which slowly increased over time plus yoga, tai chi and today I'm 142lbs 3%-4% bodyfat (bodpod results to prove it... 😉). I understand back pain, first surgery 1993, discectomy L3-4. Now they want to fuse L3-6... get your glutes, hams, spinae erector strong and tell them to wait on surgery as long as possible is what I'd tell them today but like you the pain was debilitating and getting worse by the day so I felt then I had to have surgery. but I was a young man then... took 7 years for it to feel stable but at 52 I was 205lb 9% bodyfat and could squat 1rep max at 430lbs... so that surgery lasted well for nearly 20 years.... at any rate for what my experience is worth, good luck!

How tough.... I am so sorry this is such a heavy load to carry. I am glad you shared. You are a strong person from what we know from what you have shared, and I suspect you will hang on and find a way to go forward closer to the health you long for. I was in a horrible accident and nearly broke my neck as a young adult. As I have gotten older I frequently had bouts when I couldn't stop vomiting from the pain. I'm much better now that I have more strength and fitness. I know what you are dealing with is much more serious. I can't imagine how discouraged and disappointed you must be. We can't do much, but if a little support helps, you've got it. ❤️

Do you have access to a warm water pool? Magic for people with pain. Gentle stretching as you swim, or gentler exercises in a water class for people with arthritis. It really works.
