Trying to figure out how much protein I need and I think the calculation is based on kilograms so I am in the right range aiming at 50 grams a day. I found a Mayo clinic article about it.
Went out with friends and ate lots of snacks. I didn't know that the hostess was going to put out food since she didn't last time. Her psychic group is practicing being mediums and they offered us a free seance which was all in good fun. Fun time

I waffle on what level of protein I should get. A lot of the recommendations I've seen I think are ridiculously high, but I've also read that as you get older (in my mid-50s) you need more. Most of the recommendations I've seen are from 0.8 grams to 1.6 grams per kg of body weight, so I try to keep it somewhere in the middle of that. I've had a tendency all my life to not eat enough protein foods, so it's something I've had to watch. 50 sounds pretty reasonable to me 👍

No clue on protein--FS does not calculate complementary proteins so never worried about it.

I weigh about what you do and FS recommends 100 grams per day to me (seems very high), but I notice that I feel a bit better and lose weight more if I have at least 70 grams/day.

I liked the Mayo Clinic article, Abbadabba. Thanks for posting it! It seems like the too much protein problem is mostly a common sense deficiency issue (people who think they should ONLY eat protein, people who live on protein bars and shakes exclusively). I’m a vegetarian, and it takes a certain amount of planning to get enough protein without also getting way too much fat.

There are two schools of thought about protein. One that we don’t actually need as much protein as most people eat unless you are a high functioning athlete. The other school of thought that most older people need more than the standard amount of protein to try to stave off muscle degradation that comes naturally with aging. Personally, I opt to that medium line. .1 am 5’3” and weigh 115 lb. Physically active. I try for 90 grams of good quality protein a day and it is sometimes hard to do and stay within my calorie perameters.
