Sharons Victory's Journal, 14 Apr 20

Soooo...my weigh-in this morning was just finally posting my weight so I can have record of it before I begin a 40 day fast. I actually am more like RIGHT at 200lbs...but I wanted to round up to my water bloat weight.

SO - I'm going to attempt something "crazy" and I know a lot of people might argue with me about this but I've been reading a lot about it...

I'm going to try a water fast for 40 days. I might extend it to 60 if I feel ok. but definitely doing 40.

Before anybody yells at me and tells me it's "so unsafe" - there are SO many articles and studies supporting fasting's health (go check them out!) there was even a guy who fasted for an entire 385 days Scotland and he was fine! (he started out at 465 lbs and fasted until he reached his goal of 180lbs).

Also, keep in mind that in other countries outside the U.S. that this is actually done regularly with zero negative consequences!

I also have done a 2 week water fast before and numerous 3 day fasts so I'm very familiar with this.

My 2 week fast was for spiritual reasons and this is starting as only for weight loss but on day 2 with the long finish date way far out there I am getting more in touch with my spiritual self...

I've been walking and praying and confessing to God my inner wounds and flaws...and so I have a feeling this will end up becoming spiritual whether I like it or not.

If someone knew the old church girl me and met me today they would know that I have allowed my "flesh" to have full reign for many years and it has gotten out of hand.

I want to fast to break my flesh - to show my flesh who is boss and that my spirit is the one in true control...and God.

I am most likely going to begin journaling a lot more during this.

I have done water fasting up to 14 days. I was fine. My only recommendation is to take a really good electrolyte supplement. It is 'electrolyte imbalance' that is the issue. Water fasting was the only way I went from being obese all my adult life to being well, no longer 'obese' :) Good Luck!

Wow! Go for it. I’ve tried fasting but by the second day my head is killing me even with water. Keep us informed. Live to see before and after photos and to hear about your journey.

From my understanding, the body will think it’s starving, and start pulling energy from muscle instead of fat.

While back when you posted regular and watched your intake you were Rockin’ it SV. You could do it again without these extremes, I know you could. Good luck with whatever you do! Keep us posted!

I had the same understanding as Thebeckster2. I was always thin when I was younger once I had my four children lets just say I was not one of those fortunate people that went back to my "normal" weight. I tried dieting and everything and I was a human yo-yo :( However, I have found logging has been extremely helpful and beneficial. Now, all that said I understand finding your happiness and inner peace with yourself but please do so in a healthy way and under a doc's supervision. Good luck with whatever/however you decide/choose to reach your goal!

Best wishes to you, Sharon. I have fasted for 30 days before, but I don't think I have done 40. It is totally doable, especially if you THINK it is (which is what siderails a lot of people). Be aware that on day 3 or 4 you will feel weak, as your body shifts from burning the carbs you eat to burning the fat you've stored. Be especially careful about getting up too quickly from sitting or lying down as you can get dizzy or lightheaded. That said, GO FOR IT! It looks like you've done your research and have made an informed decision. There is a great book called, "Help, Lord, the Devil Wants Me Fat" by C.S. Lovett (you may be able to find a used copy on Amazon - I think it is out of print now). It examines the role the enemy has in our weight struggles and recommends the 30-day fast to break satan's stronghold in our stomachs. Use this time to examine yourself and to become the best SHARON you can be! My thoughts and prayers will be with you, and if I can help in any way, let me know.

You are not going to eat for 40 days? Is that what this means, or does fasting have a different meaning around here?

I’m excited to see you succeed at this! I’ve been wanting to do an extended fast too, but just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I would like to just gently suggest though, that maybe instead of approaching it in the mindset of breaking her (your flesh) and showing her who’s boss, change your focus to loving her (your flesh) like she is a small child that you need to be emotionally gentle with and kind and patient. She is your partner in life, not something to be defeated, but the reason that you exist. I only suggest this change in approach because my whole life I hated my body and it never ever worked, it was only when I made an effort to change the way I thought of my body and found gratitude in my body even at my highest weight, was I able to actually care for her in a way that was a healthy long term solution, both mentally and physically. I just want you know that I only wish the absolute best for you, or I would never even bring that up. 💕

Sharon you have my support but a 40 day water fast is rather extreme. Stay healthy and be safe...
