Debbie Cousins's Journal, 14 Aug 23

Can it be that I didn't post yesterday? I must be slipping. Weight up a tad this morning - 185.8. Still lost 1.6 pounds last week, and I'm happy about that. I'm only 1.2 pounds heavier than my pre-surgery weight now, so I think all the swelling is now gone. Average calories per day was 1,852. Ditched the Protein last week, but I have decided (with a little nudging from a good friend, wink) to get back on the Protein wagon. Still a lot of healing to do. On target for today to be my third day in a row of walking 2 miles. For at least a week, that will be my new "normal." I go to the surgeon follow-up appointment next Monday, and I'll see if I can get the all clear to begin increasing my walking even more.

Still having to take Tylenol (500mg) every three hours round the clock. It actually begins to wear off at about the 2.5 hour mark. Still icing and elevating several times a day. Still doing PT exercises 2x/day. Hey, today's Monday - maybe I'll try to up it to 3x a day beginning today! Not doing much else, other than taking care of myself as I heal and regain my strength.

I've pretty much decided that the gas I've been experiencing for the past 6 days is caused by my increasing my Diet Coke consumption! I thought it might be the high-protein foods, so I eliminated them, and no difference. Varied my menu, no difference. Only other thing I can think of is that I'm probably drinking seven to nine 12-oz cans of Diet Coke a day now. Two days ago, I drank 32 ounces of water. Today I have had 16 ounces. Gotta make some changes there!

OK, that's pretty much all that's happening with me. As Eyore says, "Thanks for noticin' me."

I'm glad you are doing so well! Did you get to go to church using your cane?

Yes, JanieSaisQuoi, I went to church and enjoyed the service and the fellowship! Thanks for asking.

Debbie great great work!!!! Listen my friend you are about 4 weeks away from getting into the 170’s. Be conscious of that protein and great mindset to do more pt while you are home. You are the most important person in the room while you are healing and getting stronger and thats perfectly okay to remember💕

I'm so glad you are getting better. Your use of diet drinks worries me since they kill the friendly bacteria in your gut so you can't get proper nutrition from your food. I started having one every week or two in the heat of summer, but when reminded of what they do to our brains and gut, I stopped. I need both of them working.

Glad to hear that you’re continuing to improve, Debbie! I’m curious: does acesulfame K/ sucralose sweetener bother you as much as aspartame? Sorry if that’s too nosy.

TomLong, not too nosy - I’m not really sure if any artificial sweeteners bother me.

I can use artificial sweetners, like splenda in small amounts, but too much & it causes gastro issues. I stopped drinking Crystal light lemonade, that I would make by the pitcher. I switched to stevia for my coffee, that doesn't bother me.
