All this talk of tofu reminds me -- i have firm tofu and eggroll wrappers (they didn't have wonton wrappers) in the fridge.

Like 20 years ago i visited my sister in Seattle and she got Chinese food delivery. We had these utterly yummy spinach and tofu steamed wontons that i have never forgotten. I have gotten it into my head to learn to make this and a couple other tofu dishes that i really enjoy. I love crispy fried tofu on pad thai. But have never cooked with tofu and it is intimidating! The only thing i think i have ever used it for is i use it in place of some of the cheese when i make spanikopita, otherwise it comes out too greasy.

Anyone care to share good ways to prepare tofu?

I love tofu but not really an expert on it. I usually buy firm or extra firm, press the water out of it by wrapping it in paper towel and pressing it over night. I then marinate it and add what I want it to taste like.. I did spices and soy in one batch today and more garlic and lemon in the other. Then I bake it for crispness or fry it. Then add it to the dish either salad or veggie stir fry. I sometimes buy silken tofu for smoothies. Look forward to hearing what other do.

I’ve never cooked with it either. Following for ideas. I’d like to try it out as well.

I make tofu black bean tacos or taco salad, Indian tofu and spinach, and sesame tofu. If any of those sound interesting, I can give you more details.

@glantzkar, yes, i am interested to learn more, and wifey too! Liv, per your post, i pressed it in paper towel overnight. I need to marinate it tonight bc don't feel like cooking it f day. I want to make those steamed dumplings but i may try to make them like mozzarella sticks in the air frier? I really am a little stumped.

I do not have an air fryer (keto LOL) but I see on line that it is a good way to deal with tofu.

You can't air fry like... Chicken or cauliflower?

Oh wait, is it because you need more fat? I am slow on the uptake today, lol.

I think you’d like the tofu tacos based on your food pics. I mash 14oz drained and dried extra firm tofu together with 1.5tsp chili powder, 0.5tsp each of dried oregano, ground cumin, ground coriander, and salt. Then, in 1Tbsp oil, sauté 3 cloves minced garlic, and 2 chopped green onions. Add in the tofu and cook until the moisture is mostly evaporated (10-12 min). Add in one can of drained and rinsed black beans and one chopped green onion. Heat through. Then just assemble into tacos with your favorite toppings. I love this on a salad, too, with fresh mango salsa as my dressing. For sesame tofu: extra firm tofu, cut into 1 inch cubes. Dip in beaten egg then coat in a dry mix of 3Tbsp flour, 3Tbsp sesame seeds, 0.5tsp ground ginger. Fry it up in sesame oil. Turn off the heat and toss it in 1Tbsp tamari or soy sauce. I serve with rice and stir fry green beans. This is more labor intensive than the tacos, but it’s super yummy.

Ty for these ideas! The sesame tofu sounds awesome. I need to get some ingredients but it is on my list! The tacos/taco salad sounds good too. Going to try with air fryer, but i haven't had a lot of success there yet. I need to keep experimenting with it.
