Debbie Cousins's Journal, 19 Nov 22

The cold weather is making it harder for me to stay on track (but, so far, I’m doing it anyway). I want to drink a cup of hot tea with a Tbsp of heavy whipping cream and a tsp of sugar (plus two Truvia) every day; but every cup is 65 calories, and adds 9 calories to my daily calorie average for the week. I want to drink it because I am cold; but I’ve found that there are two better ways to warm up: doing dishes or walking 1/2 mile. “Luckily,” I “get” to do dishes 1-2 times a day and “get” to walk three times (sometimes 4). Trying to be positive here.

Have a dilemma: my husband wants me to bake chocolate chip cookies with pecans to take to a sick lady who loves my cookies. If I do that, I’m sure to EAT some. To be a Good Samaritan or to stick to my diet goals? What to do, what to do?

Maybe try stopping at one? I know it's hard when you smell them coming out of the oven! Could you find a way to be out of the house when he bakes them and let him know they have to be out of the house immediately? It's a tough one, I'll admit!

My excuse is I need to try the cookies to make sure they came out as planned ;) Having two cookies won't undo anything. Endless binging will. Agree with @writingwyo, out of sight out of mind.

not to be silly but how do you figure out the calories in the coffee I've been having some every day; I am also trying to cut on calories.

Make them, lay one aside, pack the rest, enjoy it!:)

Is this sick lady obese? Diabetic? Then I would exercise compassion and find some other way to make her feel better. Oftentimes just having a conversation and holding their hand will make them feel loved.

Maybe she likes to read or do puzzles? You could always compromise with hubby and tell him to take some nice store bought ones.

Have 1 or 2, then adjust your calorie intake for the rest of the day. Just don't make a habit of it.

If she is elderly bake the cookies for her and send her some of your tea to have with them.❣️

Same! Make the cookies but only do a small batch, enough for her so that way you aren’t tempted to eat any.

Could you make her something else that would be healthy for her and not tempting you to overeat? Maybe a casserole or something for a meal? If she's sick she might appreciate having a nice meal she didn't have to cook.

I can't understand why your husband would ask you to do this. Tell him to bake her the cookies and then go out for the day. The woman's not expecting cookies is she? surely not. Take her flowers. If hubby wants her to have cookies hubby can make them. Can't believe the sabotage. :p

Wow, lots of great responses about the cookies! Actually, I think I might wait until after Thanksgiving to make them. Gotta make a rum cake, plus making Pepper Jack Mac & Cheese, fresh string beans and the Turkey for Thanksgiving Day. Yes, I will figure out the stats for 2 or 3 of the cookies, and send all the rest away. (I'll give my husband some, but I'll make him hide them from me - silly, I know, but it works! He's a very good hider!)
