Debbie Cousins's Journal, 23 Nov 22

I’m kinda discouraged. Yesterday, I walked 1/2 mile before leaving the house to take my mother-in-law to three stores. Then, I completely FORGOT to walk any more! Ended up being 0.9 miles for the day, not making the 1-mile goal or the 1-1/2! I didn’t neglect to do it, or decide not to do it - I just plain forgot! I don’t know how this could have happened, though, after 29 days in a row of walking!!! I’ve decided that the way I’m going to deal with this is to not count yesterday. I’ll just go on and walk today, and count it as Day 30 of 1-mile and Day 19 of 1-1/2 miles, as if yesterday never happened. If I have to start at Day 1 again, I think it would derail me. What do you think of this decision? Is it “cheating,” or a way to keep myself on track after an unfortunate memory lapse?

I've already gotten in my 1-1/2 miles this morning (8:25am). Now, I'm going to walk an extra 6/10ths of a mile to make up for what I didn't get done yesterday. That makes me feel better about continuing with my streak, instead of starting over. I'm generally an "all or nothing" kind of a person - which can wreak havoc with diet or exercise plans. Often, I will do perfectly for a long time, and as soon as I have one slip-up, I will toss the whole program. Taking some extra grace from God to not do this with yesterday's lapse. My heart was in the right place - no rebellion, or laziness - and I was doing a good thing to take my MIL shopping (it drives me a little crazy, because she has to look at the date on EVERY item to make sure she's getting the best date). OK, enough about yesterday. "Forgetting those things which are behind, I press toward the mark!" With a clear conscience, I can say that today is Day #30 of walking 1 mile, and Day #19 of walking a mile and a half (not counting yesterday, even though I'm "making up" what I lacked. Trying to be as honest as possible.

we are human and sometimes life is distracting. punishing yourself for living isn't helpful, so moving forward as if it didn't happen is fine. it's not like you skipped a whole week or purposely avoided it. Keep doing what you're doing and great job sticking to it!

Definitely keep going hiccups happen and it’s more important to focus on what you accomplished then perfection of how you accomplish it. Just my humble opinion.

Don't sweat it mentally, make up for it tomorrow if it makes you feel better. If it was an honest mistake, then you aren't cheating yourself!

just catch up tomorrow. I think total weekly Intensity Minuets is more important than just one workout here or there.

Actually, I'm thinking you walked that additional .I like just with trips to and from the bathroom and kitchen. I think you can count the day as one mile. You're doing great!
