Debbie Cousins's Journal, 11 Jan 23

Yesterday I had 2-1/2 servings of those dang Peppermint Bark Pretzel Crisps (and I wanted MORE)! I wish I was better about resisting temptation, but there are some things with which I can’t control myself. Most of those things are things people gift to us. The crisps were from my husband’s aunt. Those chocolate-covered pecans were from a lady in the church. The creme brûlée I’ll be getting is from my daughter. People give us those things to make us happy because they know we LOVE them. We do pretty well at not buying addictive things ourselves! Thankfully, I’ve still been able to lose weight with the indulgences. I know some people can’t have ANY sweets, but I would have a really hard time living that way, and it wouldn’t be sustainable.

That's so true. I can't handle forbidden foods. You're doing a great job with portion control.

No treats ever would be unsustainable for me too. That said, I think in some ways -- at least in the short term -- that it's easier to just cut out certain foods than to moderate all things. I've relaxed about what foods I eat the last few months, and it's been a challenge for me to keep things in balance. I've been so impressed with how you've been doing, Debbie 😊

You are doing great. A special treat once is a while keeps one motivated I think. There has to be some “normal” when trying to lose weight … right?

I have proven that there are "forbidden" foods in my home. I have shared with family and friends, my inability to cohabitate with those foods. If I am gifted them, I will thank the giver and remind them. I have to protect myself from myself.

Understand your frustration totally. I take all treats given to me to work and share and at work they are gone in a day! Our guys work outside in the cold so it is great fuel for them to have any treats that are left here. I am lucky I can do that otherwise I would be like you and could not stay out of them!!

Motivation is a little like winter in Texas -- one day hot and the next day cold!! It would be lovely if we could keep a constant guard on that motivation, but it is hard with creme brulee staring us in the face! Keep hanging in there!
