Debbie Cousins's Journal, 15 Jan 23

I’m kinda depressed this morning. My bowels haven’t been moving like they should for almost a week, and my weight is up 4/10 of a pound this morning. I don’t even feel like doing my walking. I’m also on target to keep at under 1,700 calories a day average for this week, but I feel like eating off plan. I want to stuff myself until things are forced to move through. Just last week, I was praising the Lord for how nicely things were moving through me since I added cherries, grapes and honeydew every day. What happened?! Oh well, for this minute, I’m going to refrain from eating anything off plan, and I’m going to get up and start my walking. No promises for the rest of the day, but for right now, I have the strength to do the right thing.

Got in my 2-1/2 miles of walking. Adapted my eating so I could incorporate two sugar-free candies. Also took three more fiber gummies. Had a small amount of bowel activity - but it was something, at least. I guess I'm just greedy, wanting everything in my life to be perfect! I AM thankful that my knees haven't been hurting hardly at all this week, in spite of a bad fall. and that the elbow I skinned up is healing. I'm thankful that my weight is still a little lower than it was last Monday (tomorrow will tell if that holds). I'm thankful that my sore toe is feeling a little better today. I'm thankful that I can afford cherries at $4.99/lb. and that I can pretty much buy anything I want to at the grocery store. Things like filet mignon are very rare, but we're definitely well-fed. I'm thankful that our car hasn't fallen apart YET, and that my mother-in-law has set aside some money to give to us when we are forced to get a new (used) one. I'm thankful that I've lost over 40 pounds, and that in the past 28 weeks I've only gained (0.2 pounds) once. I'm thankful that I started walking 82 days ago and that I increased from 1/2 mile, to a mile, to 1-1/2 miles, to two and now am at 2-1/2 miles a day. This is a biggie for me, since I hate to exercise. I'm thankful that I can afford to go to the doctor when I need to (including specialists), and that we can afford to have good health insurance. I'm thankful for our home, for air conditioning and heat. So what if I'm a little constipated! In the grand scheme of things, I'm on top of the world!

Can you try some warm prune juice or something maybe a little more than the gummies?

Walking really helps to get your bowels to cooperate, Debbie. Push yourself, kiddo; it’s worth it🤗

You have been doing great!! If you haven't already I would increase my water intake to help w/the bowels. Hope you are feeling better :)

our parasympathetic nervous system handles excretion - if you are anxious or "uptight" then the system is too tight to move down to the relax place so bowels will move

Perhaps you should see a Dr and see what they say. :) I have one of those vibration boards and in the morning it shakes everything loose!

In new zealand your doctor would tell you to eat 2 kiwifruit a day to get things going again. Having said that, I don't poop much at all now that I am keto. Not many carbs going through. But it's not constipation - it's just sheep pellets. LOL. High fat diet works like high fibre diet. But back to you.... kiwifruit. So good for you. Filled with potassium and vitamin C as well. Avoid apples and bananas as they are binding.

More things to ponder --is your magnesium low? are you hydrated, did you do cat and cow exercises? Get up and dance and move around - do a praise dance with some bending --that pelvis around to. I'm guessing you are full of fiber (chuckle )

Hi Debbie. If you weigh yourself daily, you should see ups and downs. everything from hormones to seemingly weather creates fluctuating weight. stick to your calorie count and when you feel like cheating and eating crazy (I've been there dozens...hundreds...of times) chug water and add some metamucil. You will be back on track before you know it. also, some prescription meds are known to cause disruptions in movements.

You can do it. I have medical issue and chronic constipation. I take Miralax, inulin fiber and psyllium fiber and drink 100 oz of water icing water tracking app. It helps. Miralax is not a stimulant lax. It just puts more water into bowels and is safe to use daily. Also warm herbal tea and walking daily w my dog help. Good luck.
