ObeseToBeast123's Journal, 21 Feb 23

Well I woke up tired, it rained all night, it was 36 degrees out cloudy, damp and foggy. I didn't want to go be cold and get muddy and the couch was comfortable. These were all the excuses for why I didn't want to go out for my weekly trail run and eventually I said hey dummy your training for an event that your going to be cold, wet and muddy these are pretty bad excuses 😄 🤣. So anyway instead of bumping my milage up to 5 miles on relatively flat terrain. I decided to go hit a trail I've hiked dozens of times and run it instead. I kept the distance the same at 4 miles but added in 763 feet of elevation gain, more slippery rocks , mud, and fallen trees into the mix. Let's just say that trail was a whole lot harder running it then hiking it. ... we all have excuses and don't want to put the effort in ...be stronger than your excuses.

Good job. You won't regret pushing yourself when time comes for the run.

YES! I'm actually a little weird, in that I love going for long walks during inclement weather (it's supposed to rain here in SoCal for a few days, and I'm psyched about getting to use my raincoats and maybe umbrellas). However, I don't hike the canyons because fear of twisting my ankle in the middle of a muddy trail. So I tip my hat to you for blazing ahead and getting that run in, and I bet you feel better for it 🏃🏻‍♂️. Let's say you've earned the couch now.🙂

JustBananas I usually won't let rain stop me just because I'm use to working in it but I don't excited for it lol. I came home ate lunch then went right back out tland took the dog for a 2.6 mile walk. Once I get into gear I'm good for the day.

Mike in NC agreed. Requires complete focus on the task at hand everything else just disappears for a bit.

Redporchlady thanks. I'm sure there's lots of people on here that see frequent exercise posts and think it comes easy to us but we are all in the same boat and have lazy days, lack motivation, get tired and come up with a string of excuses. The more times you push past those excuses the easier it gets to do it later on but there will still be days where it seems impossible to get out and go.

You are so right on that OTB. My trainer has said that most people quit after two years so if they make it past that they are committed. I thought that was interesting and he has been doing this for almost 20 years. It is not motivation at this point but dedication.

The first 5K I ever signed up for was a trail run. It happened to snow/ice/slush the night before, so the trail was awful! We ran at a ski resort, up the trails, through an apple orchard, and back down trails. I was happy to have finished, but tweaked my knee and spent weeks trying to get back to running. The dangers of living in Maine!! Happy to say we moved much farther South and no longer have to deal with snow!!

Great reminder. I felt so weak and off today. Just posted about it. Well, it got done that’s what counts. Some days it’s for the mind not the muscles. 😓
