Debbie Cousins's Journal, 03 Jul 23

Just realized that this week completed Week #52 since I started recording everything I eat and watching my calories. Total lost since 6/23/22 is 70 pounds!!! I’m very happy with losing 70 pounds in a year - and it’s been relatively painless with my unique WOE (“way of eating,” for you newbies). Basically, I just try to keep my calories between the 1,400’s and the 1,800’s (though there were 8 weeks when I went over that). I allow myself to have anything I want, in moderation. I started walking at the end of October, and have increased from a mile a day to 5 miles a day, without missing a single day (which is ALL God - HE gave me the physical ability and wellness to be ABLE to walk. I hate exercise; I am not disciplined; and though I’m a good “starter,” I rarely see things through to completion). Thanking the Lord for this 70-pound loss, and looking forward to continued great results!

Excellent work! I'm aiming at being able to walk a mile in within a month!

I lost 20 lbs and when I was in Florida I walked 4 miles a day. I agree God helped me to do this and also my walking buddies. Now I am back up north and I haven't been able to get my grove back. No one to walk with.

Your persistence and dedication have paid off! Always helps to remember we're in this for the long haul. So glad you've found a path that works for you 🤗

Debbie, you say you are not disciplined, but I think you can be. When you commit to something, you can stick to it. You did a fast over an extended period & stuck to that. You have now walked & reduced your calorie intake for an extended time. This journey of weight loss & maintenance is just adjusting to the fact you must eat a bit less than you expend in energy. If you continue on this path, you have been on you can meet your goal & maintain it!

I am not disciplined but I'm a good starter too - OMG it was just like you were writing about me! At 76 years of age, I may never lose these last 10 lbs. I've been controlling my weight with healthy eating and losing once in awhile in spurts (good starter you know) for over 15 years. Wish I had it your way! I used to walk 3 miles several days a week but never achieved it on a daily basis for a whole year. YOU are AWESOME!

Just read your profile and your WOE has been mine too for most of the past 15 years. The good thing about the way we've done it is that when we are finally at goal (you sooner than me, I'm sure) we'll just be able to adjust our calorie level for maintenance and continue on. You've convinced me we can do it!

debrafrederick, I started by walking 1/2 mile a day. I had to do that in five 1/10th mile increments with a long rest between each. Now, I walk a mile at a time, five time, with rest between. It’s almost 2-1/2 hours of actual walking time, but it takes me 4-6 hours to actually accomplish it. Thankfully, I don’t have to work, and only have my grandkids to watch 3 days a week. Also, it helps that my 7-year-old grandson likes to walk WITH me. Sometimes, he’ll hop behind me, or crawl, or ride his scooter to follow me around the circuit in my home. Makes it more challenging for him. Best wishes with your walking! If IIII can do it, almost anybody can.

You are inspiring me to get moving. Getting my glucose in target is reducing my joint pain so walking is possible. Go feet go!

Congratulations. I'm so happy for you. (My husband hit me today and threatened worse things. I have very mixed feelings about it)
