I’m having a miserable night. I’ve never had sciatica before, but I think that might be part of what’s bothering me. Literal pain in the butt, radiating down the back/side of my leg past my knee. Of course it’s the one I just had surgery on. I’ve got a heating pad on it now, and ice on my knee at the same time. I also have a toothache! It’s been bothering me off and on (mainly off) for a couple weeks, but it is the worst it has been tonight (3:36am). I took half a Tizanidine at 9:30, and ended up taking a whole one at 12:30 (after the half did nothing). The whole one doesn’t seem to have helped, either. After my husband wakes up, I’ll see if he can give me one of his nerve pain pills. Maybe that will help with one pain or the other. I DO have some Orajel which my husband got me the other day. That seems yo be starting to give some relief after applying it about ten minutes ago.

At this point, I don’t even care if what I take is contraindicated by the Eliquis. I just want to go back to sleep without waking up every 15 minutes in pain.

Have a little trick that helped my sciatica. Butt squishes. Can be done anywhere, anytime. Sitting on a chair or sofa, or in the car at a stoplight - squeeze your glutes together so that your torso raises up an inch or two. Hold for as long as is comfortable. Repeat 5X. Do these throughout the day. (it helped when I was wheelchair bound and non weight bearing) Hope you feel better soon Debbie.

I am so sorry that you had such a miserable night. Try laying on your tummy and lifting yourself up to your elbows. Like a seal (or a mermaid)!. This bowing can squash the discs in your back back into place. Then flip over onto a heating pad and keep your knees bent. And hold your stomach in until it feels like you're touching your back bone. And press your backbone into the floor. These actions should relieve the stress on the nerve and if repeated will build up your core. Hope you get better soon.

Sounds like you need to go to the dentist! Bless your heart. I’ve seen specific stretches to help relieve Sciatica pain

Debbie, hope you are feeling better. Also hope it is NOT sciatica. That’s a bugger. I will say that i thought i had sciatica for years and years with my leg pain. Would be the entire leg down thru the calf. Then the mri showed bulging discs so doc and thought was pressing on a nerve. 8 years of this pain and new doc says hold up it’s your hip and now i have no pain. Just for reference in case not sciatica. Xoxo to you

Update: now I’m thinking it was NOT sciatica because it hasn’t happened since that night. Just a weird night, I guess, but thankfully it’s over. Thanks for all the encouragement.
