Maud Gord's Journal, 08 Jun 21

getting really frustrated again. Sitting on just under 100 kgs. Sat on just over 100 for weeks now the same thing is happening. Most days I'm well under my 1500 calorie limit and I work out 5 days a week at the gym for 1.5 hours. Lots of cardio as well as weights.
The only thing I can think of is that at the moment I have a huge stress - sister has just been diagnosed with cancer and my best friend as well. Daughter has just gone through a scare as well but luckily the lump was benign. Is this what is blocking me?
Also I need to build up my protein intake. I already eat some chicken, lots of chickpeas, black beans etc. Only dairy is 1/2 cup yogurt for breakfast and one coffee a week otherwise herbal teas. No sugar, cakes or candies.
will be speaking to my doctor about these blockages.
Any tips are welcome!

Have you tried a keto-type diet? I’m doing 10% carbs, 55% fat and 35% protein and am finding it pretty good for consistent weight loss. I would think more red meat would help as well. Good luck 😃

I'm sorry to hear about your sister and friend - how awful!! There's a book called Accidentally Overweight by Dr Libby Weaver which talks about similar situations to yours - eating low calories, exercising regularly, but not losing weight. Stress is a massive factor for weight loss...look into the book, I think you will find it helpful info.

I’ve just read a brilliant book by Dr Rangan Chatterjee- Lose Weight Feel Great- it talks about not only what you eat but why, how and when you eat. Since reading it I have changed to intermittent fasting- same overall total daily calories but in 2 meals by skipping breakfast… consistent losses since the change.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try some of the above tactics and see if that helps. trying not to get depressed but know that I need to look at the 12 kg I have lost and have hope!!

Hi Maud, I hear ya, it is very frustrating & sorry to hear of your situation. as well as the other great suggestions, have you looked into intermittent fasting? this one isn't fasting as such as you don't skip meals but 2 days a week of low calories then eat normal controlled portions rest of the week, it tricks your metabolism for lack of better choice of words. not for everyone, but works for my body type. Again there's a book on how it works called the 2 day diet which explains the theory behind it.

Try doing more cardio, track your fat percentage intake and still try cutting it down, can also try only drinking water as your only fluids.

Same thing here Maud! It has driven me crazy but can I suggest taking some photos , measurements to track your progress too. My scale won’t shift much but my clothes are still getting looser. I also looked carefully at my intake and recording and just decided maybe it’s muscle gain or too frequently weighing. You have a lot going on try to just enjoy eating properly and working out for the health benefits I’m sure your scale will reflect it soon enough too.

could it be you need to be closer to hitting you 1500 limit??

More protein. Are you actually fueling your body? Also have you done a body scan to see if your body comp is changing? Muscle is heavier than fat.

Sounds like you have fucked your metabolism. Dropped calories to quickly and your maintainance is now at 1500 cal. Happens if you cut to aggressively. Metabolic adaptation will happen. Your gonna have to reset your metabolism because you can't keep dropping the calories. Stress can play a big role but sounds more like you cut to hard to fast

1500 is way too little for your body to be using the food you eat as fuel. It'll be in starvation mode trying to hold onto every little calorie it can get. Sounds like you need to see a nutritionist about bringing your metabolism back to normal. Only then can you think about cutting to lose weight again.
